The 3rd Nobel Laureate Symposium, which follows from previous meetings in Potsdam and London, will focus on the need for integrated approaches that deal with the synergies, conflicts and trade-offs between the individual components of climate change.

On 17 May 2011, two representatives from Hong Kong will join the first session of the Symposium (4:00pm HK time) to open the dialogue on the great acceleration of human impacts on planet Earth. The session will be set up as a trial ”Planet Earth vs. Humanity” with a prosecutor, defense, Judge and jury. Christine Loh (CEO and co-founder of Civic Exchange) will moderate, and Jim Mirrlees (Nobel Prize in Economics 1996), Master of Morningside College, Chinese University, will be a Juror in this session.
On 18 May 2011, the High-level Panel on Global Sustainability* appointed by the UN Secretary General represented by the co-chair, President Tarja Halonen of the Republic of Finland will come to the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm for the presentation of the results from 3rd Nobel Laureate Symposium on Global Sustainability on 18 May at 2 pm CET.
The results will be presented in the document titled Stockholm Memorandum: Planetary Opportunities – Transforming the World in an Era of Global Change to be signed by Nobel Laureates and handed over to the High-level Panel’s co-chair President Tarja Halonen.
